This continues to underscore Austin’s affinity to focus on “systems management” as the sole sector of investment. Who can argue, the wins have come in that sector almost exclusively (exception: Dell) – Tivoli (acq by IBM), DAZEL (acq. by HP), Waveset (acq by Sun), Motive (??), Vignette (? content management) … and now the next wave — Alterpoint, FiveRuns, SailPoint and Spiceworks.
Should be the wake-up call for entreprenuers – fix those powerpoints to be management of something and you increase the chance of getting funded in Austin.
Web 2.0? Must be a valley fad??
